Investing In Our CommunitiesAt American Water, investing in our infrastructure is critical to our mission of serving our customers quality and reliable water and wastewater service. A recent report from the United States Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) gives us a look inside our country’s water pipes, plants and other infrastructure. Calling it a “significant challenge,” the report states that almost one trillion dollars in updates will have to be made over the course of the next 20 years in order to ensure the reliability and quality of water and wastewater service in the US. We have a strong and ongoing commitment to investing in infrastructure and keeping it updated so our customers never have to think about it. Our projects range in size from replacing aging mains in a rural community of five hundred people, to a project that will improve service to thousands in a Midwestern city. Nationwide, we have spent about $1.5 billion in the past three years on infrastructure investments across the country.
